TLC logo A Heavy-Duty Pot Party in Lexington!

In response to a plea from Planting Chairman Ken Worthington, 30 or so workers turned out on a cold Saturday early in May to plant 39 pots downtown (Main, Franklin, and South). They will be spectacular when the wind lets up and the heat turns on.

The flowers pots, along with our period streetlights, iron benches and trash containers, were a project of Lexington Community Betterment Association's Lexington Pride Committee. Lex Pride also makes low-interest loans to businesses in the historic downtown area for improvements to their building facades.

It was early and it was chilly, but a good number of community-minded folks turned out for the pot (planting) party in Lexington 5/6. All ages were there - shown in the right-hand photo are part of the Tony James family. He turned out with a broken leg!

On the left, Mary Witt - Lexington's Tourism Director - and Sue McGraw, owner of the antique mall on Main between 10th and 9th, display their planting skills. Newcomers are involved in many facets of Lexington's progress. On the right, Another newcomer, Armen Davis, displays her planting skills...almost en pointe!

Shown on the left, Nekie Braswell Kramer displays her ballet form as she directs the planting of one of the pots, while in the right-hand photo, her husband, Mike Kramer assists planting strawboss Ken Worthington; newly retired Buddy Black does his best work supervising.

Here we see a pot, ready to be planted, and some plants ready for potting.

On the left, Sarah Black assists the James girls, Heather and Hayley, in planting. In the photo on the right is Don Coen, Chief Waterer and Water Bearer.
